feminismthe theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes (what feminism does NOT mean: hating men)

I need feminism because the first time I shaved my head everyone called me “lesbian” or “boy”
"Hey Kyle!!"

I need feminism because everyone groans when I want to cut my hair shorter
"Why I liked your long hair! Grow it out!"

I need feminism because I was told not to shave my head because it’ll be harder for me to get a job

I need feminism because people associate girls with shaved heads with poor mental health
"She must have something wrong with her…"

I need feminism because I’m a girl and to be a girl you need to be “pretty” and to be pretty you need to be “feminine” and to be feminine that means having long hair
"Oh I could never do that to my hair!"

I need feminism because I can’t post this image on certain social medias without having it reported and taking down because women’s nipples are seen as inappropriate content

I need feminism because if in these pictures were a boy in boxers it would get a completely different reaction and none of these things would be an issue

One of the first things they ask you in the ER is to rate your pain on a scale from 1 to 10. I’ve been asked this question hundreds of times and I remember once, when I couldn’t catch my breath and I felt like my chest was on fire, the nurse asked me to rate the pain. Though I couldn’t speak, I held up 9 fingers. Later, when I started feeling better, the nurse came in and she called me a fighter. “You know how I know?” she said, “You called a 10 a 9.” But that wasn’t the truth.

I didn’t call it a 9 because I was brave. The reason I called it a 9 was because I was saving my 10…and this was it.
